How to Join

Each day presents us with invitations to grow in relationship with God, others and in our consciousness of the world of which we are part. Entering into each new day is exciting, promising and sometimes risky – but it is always God’s gift.

Do you sometimes sense in your life a call to something “more”? As Sisters of St. Joseph we choose to embrace life joyfully in its fullness and promise. Daily we seek the “more” in contemplative awareness, personal and communal prayer. We live in the friendship of community and are a lively, loving presence in all our relationships. We risk moving outwards to all people, working with others to promote dignity and self-respect. We commit to helping make life better in practical ways and through the sharing of resources. We embrace our responsibility to honour and care for God’s good creation.

In the rich tapestry of the story of the Sisters of St. Joseph across the centuries, we have always been “reading the signs of the times”. We are ordinary women, doing ordinary things for the extraordinary love of God. By opening ourselves to the spirit of God’s evolving design of life, we embrace this graced moment for the love of God, our neighbour and in the realities of our world. We always seek “the more”. Perhaps you do too!

Associates/Companions

Today, lay women and men form small communities to pray together and to share in a common vision and mission, one of transformation in and through love. They are called Associates in three of our community neighborhoods, and Companions in the fourth.

We find ourselves drawn, amid our busy family, work and everyday lives, to a life of active, all inclusive love of God, neighbour and the earth. This calling is the Charism or gift that we share with the Sisters of St. Joseph.

Together, we explore what love without exclusion looks like in our world. We give each other support on our journeys. Like the Sisters, we are “contemplatives in action”. We strive to intentionally listen to what God is saying to us and act in ways that build peace and unity in the world. We ask ourselves, “What is ours to do?” It is a privilege to be part of the Family of Joseph.

If you feel drawn by these ideas, we encourage you to explore them further with us.
