SISTER JOAN CUMMINGS, CSJ

Sister Joan was born in Hamilton in 1934 to a close-knit and musical family.

Sister Joan entered the Congregation in September of 1954. She was a generous and faith-filled person, a singer and willing to take on new challenges when requested.

Sister Joan became an Accredited Lab Technologist, beginning her ministry at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Hamilton where she successfully helped to set up a much- needed blood bank. After 18 years of Lab work, she responded to a request to move to St. Joseph’s Villa Dundas as a local Leader. While there she explored being involved in a Pastoral Care Program. Sister took a sabbatical acquiring a Diploma in Sacred Theology from Regis College and finished 2 units of Supervised Pastoral Education. She returned to the Villa as the Director of Pastoral Services.

After retiring she moved to the Hamilton Motherhouse where she became part of a Leadership Circle. She remained actively involved in coordination life at the residence until moving to Tansley Woods, Burlington in 2020, and then a final move to the Residence in London, Ontario in 2025.
